Since the founding of the Limmat Foundation in 1972, more than 1000 projects have been realized in over 80 countries with approximately 300 local partners. The project volume distributed is more than 300 million Swiss francs.

The Limmat Foundation’s social and educational projects supports especially women and children. In fact, there are more women than men among the beneficiaries. This is due to the following reasons, among others:

  1. Women play a very important role for the development of their home countries. If a mother has learned to read and write, the probability is very high that her children won‘t remain illiterate either.

  2. Women in developing countries don’t have the same opportunity as men to complete education. Usually, there is a lack of financial resources to provide them with the education they need on an equal basis.

  3. When women are beneficiaries of projects that promote income, the salary and knowledge earned benefits the entire family. The experience of the Limmat Foundation shows that this is often not the case for men.
