The Limmat Foundation is the oldest umbrella foundation in Switzerland. Its vision is a world in which all people recieve education that empowers them to shape their communities responsibly and for the good of all. In the educational projects, we focus on the training of trainers as well as the advancement of women and children.
Since more than 50 years, the Limmat Foundation has been building bridges between donors and people in need. We offer donors tailored solutions for the implementation of their philanthropic ideas and projects.
With our well-established network of 300 local partners in more than 80 countries we ensure that our projects meet the Limmat Foundation’s sustainable quality criteria. Since 1972, the Limmat Foundation realized more than 1000 projects worldwide for more than 300 million Swiss francs.
With its established project centre, the Limmat Foundation offers donors from Switzerland and abroad a unique opportunity to implement their own philanthropic ideas. Through social as well as educational projects, they sustainably improve the lives of people in need.
The choice of an umbrella foundation offers donors a cost-efficient and administratively attractive solution to establish a sub-foundation instead of their own foundation. To realize their philanthropic projects, they may use the existing structures of the Limmat Foundation and benefit from the existing contacts with local partners.
Doing good and doing it well is not only possible with money. The Limmat Foundation houses a sub-foundation that is philanthropically active thanks to authors’ rights. Other possibilities to support are real estate, participations, art and assets values.
In 1996, the former project director of the Limmat Foundation, Juan J. Alarcon, founded the charity golf tournament Esmeralda Charity Cup. Since then, the Esmeralda Charity Cup has grown continuously and can now be counted among the most traditional charity events on the Swiss golf scene. The proceeds are used to finance sustainable projects for street children in Colombia. Since the beginning of the Esmeralda Charity Cup, more than 32 500 children have already been supported with CHF 3 Mio. thanks to around 15 000 participants.
