Home for people with disabilities

Democratic Republic of the Congo In Poonamallee (India) there are hardly any institutions for people with disabilities. Therefore, seminarians from the Don Guanella Work began to take care of these children and to keep them busy. In the beginning, the children could only be cared for on the seminarians’ days off. In the meantime, this offer has developed into a rehabilitation centre for more than 50 children with physical or neurological disabilities. In order to expand the care offered and to adapt the premises to the needs of the participants, the Limmat Foundation supported the construction as well as the furnishing of the centre. Basic medical care for islanders

Greece On the island of Folegandros in Greece, the Limmat Foundation supports financially a project which provides the permanent residents of the island with a health clinic that offers free basic medical care. The well-equipped medical office is staffed by a physician and a nurse practitioner. Without this facility, local islanders would not have access to primary health care and would have to travel to another Greek island or to the mainland for treatment, which is not possible for them due to financial reasons. The clinic’s goal is to provide medical and preventive care services that at least match the average standard of clinics on the mainland and fully meet both the medical and pharmaceutical needs of the residents. This includes the dispensing of low-cost medicines. On the first of September 2022, the Limmat Foundation celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Lake Side Restaurant in Zurich. The team of the Limmat Foundation presented a varied program to 220 invited guests. Donors, mediators and local partners were involved. Additionally, the Limmat Foundation’s image film was shown. Music from the African band “Ma belle chérie” gave a special note to the event. In her welcoming speech, the President, Elisabeth András, expressed her gratitude to the sponsor Bordier & Cie and all other sponsors for their contribution. During a panel discussion, various donors as well as intermediaries reported on how their relationship with the Limmat Foundation started and described their motives for the collaboration. They also explained how the Limmat Foundation supported them to realize their personal philanthropic projects. A special highlight of the evening was the presence of the Limmat Foundation’s local partners, who had come from Colombia, India and Kenya. An interview took place with each local partner, combined with short project videos. The goal was to give the guests an understanding regarding the cooperation of the Limmat Foundation with its local partners and the added value for the beneficiaries within the projects. After the official program, all guests were invited to an Apéro Riche, which offered a good opportunity for a personal exchange. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Limmat Foundation has selected three anniversary projects so that those in need can also benefit from the jubilee. Change in the Foundation Board

On the 30th of May 2022, Henri des Déserts resigned from the Foundation Board of the Limmat Foundation due to his age. He has been a generous supporter of the foundation for 18 years. His rich experience as a banker, his commitment to Christian values and his sense of social projects, especially because of his long experience in Africa, were always greatly appreciated. The president paid tribute to his commitment and, on behalf of all, wished him all the best for his new phase of life. Jean de Skowronski was newly appointed to the Foundation Board. After completing his MBA at INSEAD, the lawyer held management positions in banks for years and now works as a lawyer in Geneva as well as Lausanne. With the Order of Malta, he has been involved with the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem and is the President of Church in Need Switzerland since 2019. The Limmat Foundation is extremely pleased to welcome Mr. de Skowronski to its Foundation Board.
