For many young people in Madagascar, access to education remains a major challenge. Through the programs CERES and SESAME, new pathways to learning and opportunity are being created.
CERES supports school education in rural areas. Each year, around 490 children and adolescents from disadvantaged families attend schools in five villages. Boarding facilities ensure that distance does not prevent students from learning. The results are encouraging: 81% complete compulsory education, compared with a national average of about 38%.
Building on this foundation, SESAME helps motivated high-school graduates access higher education (280 students per year). With scholarships, mentoring and a preparatory year in Antananarivo, students gain the skills needed to succeed at university.
The impact of CERES and SESAME:
• 95% continue to university
• 93% obtain their degree
• 65% find employment within six months
Together, these initiatives show how sustained investment in education can transform lives and strengthen communities in Madagascar. The Limmat Foundation thanks the donors, IECD, the dedicated local partners and educators who make this work possible.
