Healthy landscapes create healthier futures. Through the project “Native PEP” (www.nativepep.org), the Limmat Foundation supports partner communities in Kenya and Tanzania in restoring degraded ecosystems while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. The project “Native PEP” is led by CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International) and Biovision Africa Trust.

In 2025, more than 10 ha of rangeland and community forest were restored, 5 km of rivers and irrigation canals cleared from invasive species, six critical water springs revitalized, and more than 200 community members trained as well as actively engaged. The project supported partner communities in helping 3 neighbouring communities to implement land restoration practices, and brought environmental education into five schools, inspiring the next generation to become stewards of their natural environment.

By combining ecological restoration with scientific innovation, community participation and education, Native PEP demonstrates that protecting nature and improving people’s livelihoods go hand in hand. Together, they are building resilience for communities and ecosystems.
