| 40 Aniversario de la Fundación Limmat: 40 años uniendo mundos |

El pasado 13 de marzo tuvo lugar una emotiva ceremonia en Zurich para conmemorar el 40 aniversario de la Fundación Limmat, que fue creada el 13 de marzo de 1972. Más de 330 personas asistieron al evento, que concluyó con un bufete.
La ceremonia estuvo dividida en tres partes: en la primera, después del saludos del presidiente del Consejo de Limmat, habló el Sr. Ueli Maurer, actual ministro del gobierno suizo. Tuvo palabras muy emotivas y elogiosas para el trabajo de la Fundación, pues hasta 2008 fue miembro de su Patronoto de Honor.
El intermedio musical estuvo a cargo de dos ex-niños de la calle, ahora convertidos en profesionales. Lady Herrera (soprano) y Jeferson (flautista) deleitaron al público con su actuación.
La presentación de tres películas realizadas para ilustrar el trabajo de la Fundación Limmat en diferentes áreas de intervención social constituyó el punto álgido de la ceremonia.

| XV. Esmeralda Charity Golf Cup 2010 |

La Copa de Golf Esmeralda se encuentra en su 15 edición. Los torneos calificación se han disputado con gran éxito de participación en seis maravillosos campos de golf de Suiza y sur de Alemania. La final se jugará en Heidental el miércoles 29 de septiembre. Los vencedores serán invitados a viajar a Colombia en Febero 2011, con el fin de visitar los proyectos apoyados por los golfistas suizos. También tendrán la ocasión de participar en dos competiciones benéficas en Bogotá y Cartagena de Indias.

| El 1 de octubre de 2008 tuvo lugar la final de la XIII. Esmeralda Charity Cup en el GC Heidental. Los ganadores fueron Adrian Heiniger y Gilbert Durand, con resultado neto de 42 puntos. Las condiciones meterológicas fueron particularmente difíciles, ya que el viento sopló con una gran fuerza, dificultando el juego.
La ceremonia de entrega de premios fue presidida por la Embajadora de Colombia en Suiza, la Sra. Claudia Jiménez, quien agredeció a la Fundación Limmat y a todos los patrocinadores el aporte que hacen a favor de los niños desfavorecidos de Colombia. |

| Colombia en camino hacia la paz |

| En las últimas décadas, la sociedad Colombiana se ha visto afectada por el tráfico de drogas, el secuestro y la violencia de grupos armados ilegales de guerrilla y de paramilitares, lo cual ha conducido al desplazamiento y al empobrecimiento de una gran parte de la población.
Ahora ha comenzado un proceso de paz. Grupos enteros de combatientes han entregado sus armas. El gobierno Colombiano enfrenta esta situación de una manera ejemplar y constructiva: con un masivo programa de reinserción, llevando de nuevo a la vida civil a 47.000 excombatientes. Frank Pearl, es el encargado de este singular programa. Antes de ser asignado por el Presidente Alvaro Uribe como asesor especial para la reintegración socioeconómica, Frank Pearl trabajó en el sector privado, últimamente como consultor asociado en McKinsey.
El señor Frank Pearl presentó, en la sede de la Fundación Limmat, el programa para "La desmovilización, la reintegración y la reconciliación en Colombia". La ponencia que tuvo lugar ante un público muy comprometido, contó también con el interés de la prensa. (Véase el artículo NZZ,, 29 Mayo 2008.)

| XIII. Esmeralda Charity Cup 2008 |

| Los tradicionales torneos de golf a favor de los niños de la calle de Colombia tenían previsto su comienzo para el 31 de mayo en el GC&C de Maison Blanche. El mal tiempo reinante durante los días anteriores inundó los fairways y los greens, lo que causó la anulación del torneo. Afortunadamente se pudo encontrar una nueva fecha: el sábado 13 de septiembre nos encontraremos de nuevo en Maison Blanche.
Hasta esa fecha se disputarán cuatro torneos, en GC Langenstein, GC Steisslingen, GC Matterhorn y GC Bonmont. Las fechas y el formulario de inscripción se encuentran bajo la rúbrica "Esmeralda". La final está prevista para el miércoles 1 de octubre en el GC Heidental. |

| Fondazione Tamaro: 690’000 Euros para necesitados |

| Desde su creación a finales del año 2000 hasta la fecha, la Fondazione Tamaro (FT) ha financiado proyectos por un total de 690’000 Euros.
Con el fin de apoyar proyectos en el campo de la educación y de la formación, especialmente para niños y mujeres necesitados, la famosa escritora italiana Susanna Tamaro creó su Fondazione Tamaro como subfundación al interior de la Limmat Stiftung (Zürich, Suiza). Para ello donó los derechos del libro Respóndeme (Seix Barral, 2000), del cual ya se han vendido más de 440’000 ejemplares en el mundo. En el 2006, ha entregado los derechos españoles de su nuevo libro Escucha mi voz.
La FT tiene un programa de becas para jóvenes mujeres extranjeras que estudian en Italia. A finales de 2006, son doce las chicas que, gracias a la Fondazione, puede seguir sus estudios. Provienen de países pobres (Albania, Angola, Camerún, Cabo Verde, China, Hungría, Perú, Rumania y Senegal) y quieren volver a su país después de sus estudios, para contribuir a su desarrollo.
Además, la fundación está apoyando proyectos en Colombia y en Congo-Kinshasa.
En Colombia, como en el resto de los países del mundo, los niños sufren de la violencia, del abuso (físico y sexual), de los trabajos forzados, etc. Aunque no faltan instituciones locales (públicas y privas) que pueden solucionar sus problemas, los niños desconocen que éstas existen, o tienen miedo a denunciar sus casos. Para solucionar este grave problema, la FT decidió apoyar la realización de una línea telefónica de atención infantil (proyecto LATIN). A finales del 2004 comenzó a funcionar el “106” en Cali, donde actualmente se atienden a unas 700 llamadas al mes y cuenta con una red de 400 instituciones locales para los casos de intervención. Desde finales de 2006 la Línea 106 comenzó a funcionar en Medellín, y para 2007 se prevé expandir a Manizales y Bogotá.
Kinshasa (Congo) es una de las ciudades más pobres del mundo. La mayoría de la población no tiene acceso a cuidados médicos. Este es el caso de los barrios marginales de Mont-Ngafula y Selembao, que cuentan con 250’000 habitantes. Las 37 camas del hospital Monkole son casi las únicas para toda esta población. Gracias a la FT, el personal médico de Monkole visita regularmente a todas las escuelas de esos dos barrios, para dar una formación a la salud a los maestros y a los alumnos, y hacer un check-up a los niños. En muchos casos, se detectan a tiempo enfermedades que no se hubieran cuidado sin este proyecto de Salud Escolar.
En los últimos años, la FT ha apoyado a otros programas de educación y formación profesional para antiguos niños y niñas de la calle, en Mumbai (India), Cartagena y Medellín (Colombia).

| Grupo Suizo visita Colombia |

| El director de proyectos, Juan J. Alarcon, acompañado por un grupo de cinco personas amigas de la Fundación, realizó un viaje a Colombia del 20 de octubre al 4 de noviembre. Durante el viaje fue inaugurada la escuela primaria de la Fundación Manos Providentes (Cali), situada en uno de los barrios más conflictivos de la cuidad, con capacidad para 250 niños. También pudieron visitar numeros proyectos que la Fundación cofinancia en ese país: en la Costa Atlántica (Actuar, FSJ-Galerazamba), Medellín (Actuar), Buenaventura (FSJ-Pelícanos), Cali (Fundación Carvajal, Fundesia, Circo para Todos) y Bogotá (Programa Bosconia). Los acompañantes quedaron sorprendidos por el magnífico y profesional trabajo desarrollado por los socios locales con los que trabaja la Fundación Limmat. |

| Also this year the Esmeralda Charity Cup supports street children in Colombia. 2008 there are five qualification tournaments. They are hold at various courses in Switzerland as Maison Blanche, Schloss Langenstein, Steisslingen, Matterhorn and Bonmot.
The final tournament will take place at Heidental. Interested golfers find data and the registration form on the following Web link.

Some new sponsors have been won for the present edition, which will make prizes even more attractive.
The proceeds of the Esmeralda Charity Cups will be used to support the two following projects:
Project I: Workshops for Vocational Training of former Street Children
In the Boarding Training Center Bosconia-Marcelino 120 youngsters live, who are former street children. They received holistic care. Together with a good general education, appropriate vocational training is a key factor for their re-integration into society. In order to improve the center, the project plans the construction and equipping of two workshops for carpentry and auto mechanical repair. The total cost of the project is CHF 115,000; the Esmeralda Charity Cup will contribute CHF 50,000 out of its tournament proceeds. The balance is provided by local sponsors.
Project II: Expansion of the Child Helpline 106
In the past years, the Limmat Foundation supported the creation of the Child Helpline 106 in three big cities of Colombia: Cali, Medellin und Manizales. 14’000 calls were answered in 2007. About 2,000 of those cases needed follow up through specialized institutions, mainly due to children abuse and violence.
With the new project, the Line 106 will be established in two other cities of Colombia: Cartagena and Barranquilla. One million children live in these cities, and will have the chance to receive help in difficult situations. The cost of the project is CHF 260,000. The Limmat Foundation, with the inclusion of proceeds from the Esmeralda Charity Cup, is contributing CHF 80,000. The remainder of the budget will be provided by Colombian government institutions.

| BENEFIT CONCERT GIVEN BY BOSCONIA YOUTH ORCHESTRACHF 62,000 (USD 48’000) for the Street Children |

| The official results of the Bosconia Orchestra’s tour through Switzerland are in: over CHF 62,000 (USD 48’000)were netted for the vocational education of former street children in Colombia. A most satisfactory outcome!
The 47 street children – 35 musicians and 12 dancers – and their 8 chaperones arrived in Europe for their tour in the early fall of 2005. Trip expenses were shared by Belgium, Spain and Switzerland. The great success of this event is due in part to the generosity of the tour sponsors, who underwrote the expenses of the week of performances in Switzerland. Because of them, we were able to direct 100% of all donations and proceeds from ticket sales to the projects in Colombia.
Proceeds from the tour will make possible a new vocational education center in Buenaventura (on the Pacific coast of Colombia), where the problem of street children has become particularly acute in the past few years. The Pelicanos Center will take in 90 former street children, and will provide vocational training for a further 300 at-risk youth.
At the invitation of the Limmat Foundation, 47 former street children from Colombia performed for an audience of 400 in the Zurich Volkshaus on September 26, 2005. Father Javier De Nicolo -- whose name is synonomous with the effectiveness of working with street children -– emphasized in his greeting the crucial importance of giving affection to these children. This is what encourages them to eventually leave the street and freely venture into a suitable training center.
The 35 young musicians played ambitious pieces by Rossini and von Suppé with great élan. In the second half of the program, a dozen children accompanied Caribbean folkloric songs with a charming, tropically colored dance. The youths from Colombia proved to the enchanted Swiss audience that their education program is a resounding success.
In the name of the Zurich government, the city council president, Dorothée Fierz, gave her heartfelt speech to the young musicians and their escorts in Spanish. “If one knows,” she said, “that these children lived on the street for years under inhumane and degrading conditions, one is overwhelmed to see what is possible after a few years of intense care and affection. Understanding and attention, which they never experienced in their early childhood, prove what amazing feats people are capable of.” Ms Fierz encouraged everyone present to continue in their support of these children, be it as concertgoer, sponsor, helper or donor, in the knowledge that all contributions go entirely towards the vocational training of these children.

Zurich’s legislators dance the salsa with former street children
A pleasant surprise awaited the Zurich cantonal councillors on Monday, September 26, 2005, during a break in their session. The Bosconia Youth Orchestra played an invigorating impromptu concert for them on the Gemüsebrücke. As happened the day before, the music proved irresistible: the tropical rhythms and the urging of the children moved the legislators, visibly amused, to shake a leg themselves. Even the councillors Fierz and Aeppli proved themselves in fine dancing form.

| Apertura de un centro para mujeres en dificultades en Tesalónica |

| El pasado 13 de noviembre de 2005 fue inaugurado, en presencia de los Srs. François Geinoz (director ejecutivo) y Juan J. Alarcon (director de proyectos), un centro de acogida para mujeres. También estaba presente el Obispo de Corfu.
La casa tiene capacidad para 18 mujeres y sus hijos pequeños, y está dirigida por las Misioneras de la Caridad de Madre Teresa de Calcuta. La Fundación Limmat aportó Euro 300,000 para los costos de construcción y de equipamiento. |

| La final de la X. Esmeralda Charity Cup fue jugada el 31 de agosto de 2005 en el GC Heidental. Brigitte Sutter (hcp 10.1) y Corinne Gschwind (hcp 11.8) de GC Lipperswil ganaron on un resuldado espectacular de puntos 49 Stableford (four ball best ball, ¾ handicap). En segundo lugar quedaron Yves Grand (hcp 2.7) and Christoph Wyssen (hcp 36) del GC Matterhorn, también con 49 points. Los ganadores en resultado gruto, con 42 puntos fueron Alos Egger (hcp 3.5) and Martin Holz (hcp 5.7)del GC Lucerne.

| On May 8, 2004 was nominated Dr. Hans Thomas as the new president of the Board. He succedes Mr. Hans Georg Rhoheimer, who retired from this function after 18 years. Dr. Hans Thomas is also the director of the Lindenthal Institut in Köln (Germany), and has a wide experience in the field of development cooperation and cultural activites. |
